On behalf of the Tunkhannock Public Library, we wish our very best to all of our patrons, our community at-large, and said friends and family during the recovery from the recent flooding.
I would not be able to do an emergency list justice of all the resources available before, during and after a disaster, however, here are some examples you could start with:
US National Weather Service Binghamton NY (Web & Facebook pages)
National Weather Service - NOAA Weather Radio Stations (Web & Radio - ex. WXL43 call sign)
Wyoming County Emergency Management (Web & Facebook pages)
Wyoming County Pennsylvania Fire/EMS News Page (Web & Facebook pages)
The Red Cross (Web & Facebook pages)
Please be aware, this is not a comprehensive list and is simply an addition to the police, fire, ambulance, and other important community emergency functions in your area.
More importantly, Do you have a personal PLAN in the event of a disaster? How will you receive warnings and do you have a documented list of such services listed above? Do you know what your evacuation route would be? How will you communicate with those closet to you? Where would you seek shelter? Are your most important family documents secure (and/or copied remotely) to preserve?
Regardless of your answer (i.e Yes, Sort of, or No), there are resources available to help you re-visit an existing or develop a plan that works best for your family and the types of disasters one would expect in your area. Here are two examples of resources you could refer to:
Lastly, if you don't have a self-powered radio available in the event of an emergency, you might want to consider acquiring one. As a reference, Amazon has a best selling (highly rated) unit called the Esky Portable Emergency Radio. It is a Hand Crank, Self Powered, AM/FM/NOAA Solar Weather Alert Radio with 3 LED Flashlight and a 1000mAh Power Bank Phone Charger. Clearly, an item like this can be purchased elsewhere.
I hope this information was useful and I will continue to provide, what we believe to be relevant, tech-related posts on a weekly basis.
